Where are you travelling to first?
South America. What is your favourite aspect about traveling? Navigating a new city, figuring out logistics, hotels, transports, landmarks to visit, and making new friends. Are you a city traveller or nature explorer? I like to be both but probably prefer nature a bit more. Have you ever hitchhiked? If not, would you ever consider doing it? Not on purpose but have been picked up by nice people who drove me to places when no taxis were available in Nanjing and Rotorua. Have you ever been on a cruise? Yes but I'm not a huge fan of boats. Have you ever flown first class? Yes, accidentally, as we missed our flights and only first class was available from Mexico City to Havana, Cuba. Do you prefer a window seat or aisle seat on a plane? Window seat! Have you ever been camping while abroad? I have stayed in camps in South Africa. Have you ever been on a safari? Yes, in South Africa, Kenya, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The elephant safari experience in Nepal, literally riding an elephant on water while checking out rhinos, was the most special. What is your drink of choice on a plane? Tomato juice. What is your go to remedy for jet-lag? Melatonin. What is the most exotic destination you’ve been to? Staying with nomad family in the middle of nowhere in Mongolia. What is your main concern when travelling? Safety! I did not feel safe when I was walking around certain parts of Providence, Rhode Island. Do you travel with a fixed plan or usually just wing it? I usually book the must-see places and hotels in advance and then wing the rest. Where do you prefer to stay? At boutique hotels. I prefer staying in accommodations that have a story to it. In Cologne, I stayed at the Qvest which is a hotel that was converted from a neo-Gothic church. What has been your best trip? I always feel like my last trip was my best trip. I quite like learning about history so Israel, Greece and Turkiye were super interesting for me. Which country has the best food? Malaysia for sure! Even rice tastes better in Malaysia. How do you choose where to travel to? Purely based on whether I can get cheap tickets for the target dates, and preferably to a new country. I'm very flexible with where to go as long as I get to see a new part of the world. What is your earliest travel memory of being on vacation? Probably Japan with my aunt and uncle. I recall there was a minor earthquake when we were there. Do you prefer to travel solo or as part of a group? Probably solo as I like to have the flexibility to wake up as early or as late as I want and just go with the flow of my feelings. What travel apps you you use most often? Google maps, skyscanner, agoda and trip.com. What is your favourite foreign cuisine? Vietnamese. Do you prefer novel stimulating experiences or a chilled out relaxed vacation? Definitely novel stimulating experiences. What is the most money you’ve spent on a plane ticket? Where’d you go? Round trip economy flight to Melbourne for the graduation ceremony of my masters degree. It was insanely expensive and only for a long weekend trip too. Would you rather travel the world by plane, train, or ship? Plane and train! I get seasick on boats. Would you rather see a lot of countries for a little bit or get to know one in-depth? A lot of countries for a little bit! Would you rather upgrade your flight to first class or your hotel room to the penthouse suite? Penthouse suite. Would you rather watch the rising sun or the setting sun? Sunrise for sure. I like being up early. Would you rather discover the jungle on an African safari or the sea on a cruise? African safari! Would you rather have a summer beach vacation or a winter mountain trip? Since we have access to amazing beaches in Hong Kong, I would rather go on a winter snowy mountain trip. Is it the journey or the destination that’s most important to you? The destination. I can tolerate budget economy long haul flights as long as it takes me to my destination. |
